Bryson City, located in the mountains of Western North Carolina, offers many unique places to see. Maybe you are all hiked out, and would like something different, here are some suggestions:

Cherokee: Only about 5 minutes from Bryson City is Cherokee in the heart of the Cherokee reservation. A fascinating museum presenting the history of the Cherokee Nation, shops selling American Indian arts and crafts, theatre and cultural events. Harrah’s Cherokee Casino is located on the reservation.

Sylva: about 20 minutes east on Route 74, Downtown Sylva is a charming place to visit. Lots of interesting galleries, shops and restaurants and cultural events.

Dillsboro: A lovely little town, Dillsboro is a starting point for the Smoky Mountain RR, as well as boasting its very own Chocolate Factory.

Western Carolina University Arts Center in Cullowhee: Many musical events, theatre, plays, readings, check their calendar here.

Waynesville: Continuing to travel east on Rt, 74 your next stop will be Downtown Waynesville which is one of the older towns in Western North Carolina. It is a pleasure to visit. Many interesting events going on through the summer, plus fine restaurants, and interesting shops.

Asheville: an hour east of Bryson City, Asheville is the largest city in the area. Downtown has many cultural opportunities, great shops and restaurants. The Biltmore Estate is a must, wonderful trails throughout, a fascinating house to visit, and many different events throughout the year. Another great old hotel with many varied events is the Grove Park Inn.
